Delta's New Retroactive Baggage Charges are in Violation of U.S. Codes
May 22, 2008
Delta Airlines complaint
I purchased 2 tickets from Delta in Jan for June travel which should fall under the baggage guidelines prevailing at the time. Instead, Delta changed their (round-trip) for two of the 4 bags that were originally provided free of charge.

I contacted Delta who refuses to waive the charges. Then, I discover the U.S. Dept. of Transportation published a notice on May 18, 2008 stating the following:

Whatever the contract of carriage provides regarding free baggage as of the date of each ticket sale is binding on the carrier. The Aviation Enforcement Office considers any carrier practice that violates its contract of carriage provisions to constitute an unfair and deceptive trade practice in violation of 49 U.S.C. § 41712.

I reported this to Delta but they won't even respond to me. I think more people are going to have complain before Delta does something. What are they thinking?

You can go to Delta.com , the to travel and check in then baggage allowance. At the bottom of that page is a section for 2nd bag free rebate. You had to have purchased tickets before April 9th and travel after May 9th. Good luck.

Thats correct you pay whatever baggage charges were in effect on the date of the ticket.

Gas prices are the main reason they have baggage charges now. :/
